04 Oct What Is Your Talent Worth?
Have you watched the Six Million Dollar man Movie?
Here is a recap – when NASA astronaut Steve Austin was severely injured in the crash of an experimental lifting body aircraft, he is “rebuilt” in an operation that costs six million dollars. His right arm, both legs and the left eye were replaced with “bionic” implants that enhance his strength, speed and vision far above human norms: he can run at speeds of 60 mph (97 km/h), and his eye has a 20:1 zoom lens and infrared capabilities, while his bionic limbs all have the equivalent power of a bulldozer. He uses his enhanced abilities to work for the OSI (the fictitious Office of Scientific Intelligence) as a secret agent. (Wikipedia)
Based on the description of the person above, how much do you think you are worth? Are you worth a million dollar investment? Would you pay to attend a ten thousand pounds training course to enhance your potential? Would you pay someone to help you enhance your gifts and talents? Would you pay to have your CV reconstructed?
How you feel about yourself is directly related to how you treat yourself. Your self-worth is a major factor that determines whether or not you will improve your life and achieve your big goals. If you do not love, value and cherish yourself, it is unlikely that you will do what you need to do to live a positive and purposeful life.
Dare I say, how you feel about yourself will determine how you package your passion and the value you add to it. It will also, to a large extent determine your pricing structure when you package your passion.
It is important that we learn to truly care about ourselves and honour our well-being so we can achieve our true potential and add value to our lives.
Here are the key ways to ensure you care and value yourself.
Don’t Compare Yourself with Others
The only person you need to compete with is the person you were yesterday. Your aim is to be a better person for yourself and not anyone else. If you focus on what others have and not what you can achieve, you will forever be chasing your tail. So make it a point of duty to stop comparing yourself with others. You have unique traits that cannot be duplicated so remember that when you package your ideas.
Stop Trying to Be Accepted by Others
It is natural for us as human beings to seek acceptance and validation. The world systems were developed to embrace an approval system. It happens in our jobs, at home, in social circles and even in schools. Being true to who you are will help you overcome your need to seek acceptance from your partner, boss, friends or social media contacts. Even when they say otherwise, you can rest in who you know you are and continue to develop yourself until you become one of the best in your industry.
Recognise your self-worth
“The world will call you what you call yourself.” Nigerian Proverb.
God created you with exceptional value. You are an asset, and there are talents within you the world needs. Your past should not determine your future. Whether you have a rocky path or a successful one, you are worthy. You should treat yourself with dignity and respect, and others will do the same. Pay attention to what you call yourself. If you call yourself other than what you want to be, then it is time to change the record.
They say “life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” Too many people are always looking ahead and do not enjoy the present moments of their lives. You must learn to embrace today before you can take hold of your future. It takes time and effort to create the life you desire. To achieve it, you need to embrace your ‘now’ and be available for today’s opportunities to create the life you deserve.
Help and serve others
Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38. When we dedicate time to serving others, it is incredible how our needs are met in the process. There are many ways to give back to others and once you open your heart to it, you will begin to see the needs you can meet. When you find yourself seeking validation, take a step back and explore how you can help someone else instead of waiting for approval.
Pursue Your Purpose
You are in this world for a reason and how your life has panned out up until now should not stop your development journey. Do not let the things that are not working in your life rule your life. You have incredible, talents and gifts to enable you to walk in your real purpose. Your role is to discover what those incredible assets are and commit to using them to serve the world.
There is a difference between doing something for yourself to serve just your purpose or doing it to earn an income while focusing on helping others so they can be better. In both instances, you benefit, but the latter is the best way to live our lives. You must commit time and effort to develop the solutions within you so you can help others too. If you are already doing that, look at how you can amplify your impact and have an even bigger influence with your tribe.
